William Tyrrell case twist NSW Police and sniffer dogs scour bushland close to convicted paedophile - Daily Mail

Twist in case of missing William Tyrrell as cops and sniffer dogs scour bushland close to where a convicted paedophile used to live and just minutes from where the toddler was last seen

  • Police and sniffer dogs have scoured the bush in search of William Tyrrell
  • They searched an area near where convicted paedophile Frank Abbott, 79, lived
  • Abbott was trialled over the 1968 death of a 17-year-old girl but never convicted
  • He was arrested this year and is a key person of interest in William's case
  • Tyrrell was three when he went missing from his grandmother's home in 2014

The search for missing toddler William Tyrrell resumed Monday with authorities and sniffer dogs scouring bushland near a saw mill and train tracks close to where a convicted paedophile lived.

Riot police, SES crews and sniffer dogs searched the bush around a large rural property on Miles Drive in Herons Creek on the NSW Central Coast on Monday.

They searched an area near an old saw mill where convicted paedophile Frank Abbott, 79, lived in a caravan at the time of William's disappearance.

The location is an 11-minute drive south of Kendall, where the three-year-old went missing from his foster grandmother's home on Benaroon Drive in September 2014.

Police and SES volunteers also cut through bush near an old train line in Walkers Creek using brush cutters and spades during Monday's search party.

At one point, the searchers formed a line and walked across a field to make sure that no stone was left unturned.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said they will be 'conducting further searches under a coronial order'.

'NSW Police is committed to finding William Tyrrell, with the Homicide Squad's Strike Force Rossann continuing to conduct inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance,' she said.

Nearby the search area was the Parish family property, where Abbott was staying at the time William vanished from nearby Kendall.

Abbott had on several occasions claimed to have knowledge of William's whereabouts, according to property owner Daniela Parish.

He was arrested in February and is in custody at Cessnock jail, where he remains a person of interest in the William Tyrrell case.

The 79-year-old was previously arrested in 1994 over the death of Helen Harrison, 17, who's body was found in a shallow grave in the Hawkesbury region in 1968.

Abbott was trialled twice but never convicted. The first jury could not reach a verdict and the second acquitted him.

Ray Porter made the confession about his knowledge of William's disappearance to a carer at a NSW mid-north coast aged care faciliy in April last year.

Mr Porter died last year but his carer Kirston Okpegbue told the court about his confession during the NSW Coronial Inquest in March.

He claimed to have picked up Abbott and Tyrrell from behind a shed at Kendall School before driving them north, according to Ms Okpegbue.
