Three stabbed in ‘callous’ balaclava-clad Valley theft plan, police say - Brisbane Times

Within the next 10 minutes, Massingham said, police then received two further calls for help relating to two other men who had been stabbed.

One, another 21-year-old found near the intersection of Ann and Constance streets, had a “serious” abdominal wound from a large knife still lodged inside him and a gold necklace allegedly stolen.

“The handle of the knife had broken off during the attack,” Massingham said. He was also given first aid and rushed to the hospital by paramedics in a serious condition.

Police were then called to a third 23-year-old male victim on nearby McLachlan Street who had been left with “significant” knife wounds to his right arm and “fairly extensive” facial injuries.

CCTV and witnesses were able to identify the 17-year-old seen fleeing the scene, who was later arrested.

“What we’ve been able to ascertain since that time is that a group of four to five men donned masks and balaclavas and then set about, in at least one of these instances, robbing individual persons as they left licenced venues,” Massingham said.

He asked any member of the public with information to come forward, saying the potential that there may have been more victims – across an area focused on the Constance Street area but perhaps extending west to Wickham Street – could not yet be ruled out.

The 17-year-old Bundamba boy, currently said to be uncooperative in the Brisbane watchhouse, was being charged with robbery while armed, and committing acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police are expected to request bail be denied, alleging he took a gold necklace from the 21-year-old victim while another member of the group stabbed him – an attack that Massingham said was captured on CCTV.

“These four to five males that are still outstanding, I have requested all available detectives in the Brisbane city area to work around the clock until we locate them. That will only be a matter of time,” Massingham said.
