South Elgin to cap off summer with all-day music festival Saturday - Daily Herald

With Riverfest put off for at least another year, South Elgin will fill the void Saturday with its first "End of the Summer Music Fling" at Panton Mill Park.

The event will feature live music, entertainment, food and drinks. The day will be capped off with fireworks.

"I'm so glad we could still pull together a one-day fest," Village President Steve Ward said. "A great way to cap off the summer."

Riverfest was canceled earlier this year for the second time due to COVID-19. Village Administrator Steve Super said planning for the three-day event starts in December and January.

"COVID was in full force at that time," he said.

Super said the all-day music festival will take advantage of all the space Panton Mill Park has to offer after last year's renovation.

"We expect a lot of people, but, unlike our festivals in the past where people are forced to cram together, there's plenty of space for people to spread out and just enjoy the music and hopefully have a great day," he said.

The event builds off the success of the village's "South Elgin Experience" series they held each Wednesday throughout the summer, which featured concerts, car shows, movies, food truck nights and other events that drew as many as 600 people to the park. Super said the village will continue the series next year.

"We want to use the park as much as possible and try to get as many family-friendly, free events for our community as we can," he said.

Saturday's fest starts at 11 a.m. with family-oriented attractions, including DiNaso's World of Reptiles and a face painting booth. Leonardo Music takes the stage at noon with a show for kids. A balloon artist and roving magic by Gary Kantor join in the fun around 1 p.m.

The music lineup continues with Cielito Lindo Band at 2:30 p.m., Nashville Electric Company at 4:45 p.m. and 28Days at 7 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Food vendors include South Elgin businesses Dee's Place, Riverside Pizza & Pub, Village Tavern & Grill and Dairy Queen. Drinks, including beer, wine and specialty drinks, will be available.
