AFL virus scare seemingly averted - NEWS.com.au

Western Australia appears to have dodged a Covid-19 bullet, which will be a massive relief for AFL fans and officials.

AFL fans will be breathing a sigh of relief after Western Australia recorded no new cases of Covid-19 despite two infected truck drivers entering the state.

WA will host the AFL grand final at Optus Stadium on September 25 if the MCG is unable to host a crowd.

But after it emerged late on Friday that two truckies had been to several exposure sites in the state, it put many people on edge.

The truckies, aged 29 and 23, received a text message from NSW Health alerting them that they had returned a positive result but by then they were already in WA.

Seven close contacts and 16 casual contacts have been identified, with 22 so far testing negative.

“All of them are in isolation and all are being tested regularly,” Premier Mark McGowan said.

“It is a very low risk situation but we will not take any chances so we are monitoring very carefully.”

It means the grand final should be able to proceed in WA without any risk of a lockdown.

Anyone who has been to one of the following exposure sites in WA must quarantine immediately for 14 days and get tested within 48 hours and on day 12:

  1. KENWICK — KJI Logistics Truck Yard, 95 Victoria Rd, on August 27 from 3am to 11.45am;
  2. KEWDALE — Xpress Freight Management Warehouse, 2 Noble St, on August 27 from 2am to 3am;
  3. NORSEMAN — BP Truckstop, Eyre Hwy, on August 26 from 5.30pm to 6.15pm;
  4. WIDGIEMOOLTHA — IOR Petroleum Fuel Station, Lot 124 Kingswood St, on August 26 from 6.45pm to 7.15pm;
  5. YELLOWDINE — Mobil Yellowdine Fuel Station, 22 Great Eastern Hwy, on August 26 from 9.15pm to 10pm; and
  6. SOUTHERN CROSS — Shell Fuel Station, 22 Great Eastern Hwy, on August 26 from 9.55pm to 10.40pm.
