Victoria has recorded no new coronavirus cases or deaths for an eighth consecutive day.
Key points:
- The eight-day streak of "double donuts" comes ahead of further restrictions being lifted in Melbourne
- Melbourne's 25-kilometre travel radius and the "ring of steel" are expected to be dropped
- Announcements about the next steps towards "COVID normal" will be made tomorrow
Melbourne's 14-day case average has dropped to 0.9, down from 1.3 yesterday.
The total number of mystery cases recorded in Melbourne in the latest two-week reporting period remains at two.
Regional Victoria's 14-day average and mystery case total remains at zero.
Victoria's streak of "double donut" days comes ahead of further restrictions being lifted in Melbourne.
The State Government is expected to announce tomorrow that both the 25-kilometre travel radius and the "ring of steel" between Melbourne and regional Victoria will get axed.
Other expected changes include increasing Melbourne's capacity limits in hospitality venues and allowing indoor fitness centres to resume operating with strict density limits.
Premier Daniel Andrews yesterday flagged the possibility of announcing more changes than previously planned.
"We'll also map out for Victorians what the rest of November looks like, and further steps we hope to take a couple of weeks after this Sunday," he said.
"I'm very hopeful on Sunday we'll be able to make announcements as we foreshadowed — we may be able to add a little bit there — and also … we'll then be able to talk about what the rest of November looks like.
"And they'll be big steps — they'll get us much closer to normal than we've been for six to seven months."
However he urged Victorians to remain vigilant against the virus.
"We can't just pretend that seven days of zeros is like a vaccine against this virus —it isn't," he said.
"Therefore we have to keep our guard up, we have to keep doing the right things in every way we possibly can."
