Coronavirus NSW: Restaurant lashes out after rule-breaking claims - NEWS.com.au

The Sydney restaurant linked to new COVID-19 cases in NSW has lashed out on social media after being accused of flouting contact tracing rules.

NSW Health recently revealed contact tracers were struggling to get in touch with customers who dined at Jasmins Lebanese Restaurant in Liverpool due to the restaurant not keeping a full record of customer details.

It comes after confirmed COVID-19 cases dined at the restaurant while infectious, with a staff member now also testing positive to the virus.

There are fears the lack of customer details could mean infected people are unknowingly spreading the virus in the community.

But the restaurant has hit back at the claims in a Facebook post, using CCTV images to try to prove they have a check-in method in place.

“Oh Dear oh Dear Jasmins is famous on the news, you all heard, I’m going to show you,” read a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page

“Please reply to these reporters they need a sock in there (sic) mouth.”

The restaurant then posted a series of photos of police officers and a NSW Health worker having their temperatures checked and writing their contact details in a book as they enter the restaurant.

“The health unit have stated we are not using the COVID rule facility, the officers came in and sighned (sic),” the post read.

“And the Health unit officer which his bosses accused Jasmins got his temperature taken and sighned (sic) in on entry.

“Blind is not the word can you give it a name for me please.”

But the attempt to contradict the claims from NSW Health hasn’t gone down too well with other social media users.

“A staff member of yours was sick with COVID and worked for three days! Perhaps you should be posting that, not this crap trying to protect your revenue,” one person wrote.

The restaurant didn’t take this criticism too well, replying: “Nice one Bobby, Your (sic) a Follower, we are Leaders thats (sic) the difference between us and you, just keep on following the media Crap you’ll become a Crap like them.”

The restaurant then started to accuse commenters of being paid to criticise the venue.

The restaurant’s furious reaction just prompted backlash, with many calling for the venue to close.

“I hope you get such a big fine and you are closed for a long time … it’s incompetent businesses like yours that will possibly bring us trouble like Victoria,” another person said.

Someone else pointed out the CCTV images didn’t prove every previous customer had signed in.

“This doesn’t prove every customer was correctly signed in. You obviously relied on the honour system for people to sign the register instead of forking out for an additional staff member to sign people in on entry,” they said.

Anyone who attended the restaurant for an hour or more at the following times has been told to immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days from their visit.

• October 26 from 4pm-9pm

• October 31 from 3pm-8pm

• November 1 from 9am-1.45pm

Yesterday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian expressed concerns that infected people could be going undetected in the community due to the failings of businesses.

“It is an enormous cause of concerned that there are people that could be infected that have not been identified,” she said.

“Our job is made harder when businesses aren’t doing the right thing. It concerns me that there are people walking around that could have been exposed and have the virus.”

She warned her patience with rule-breaking businesses was “wearing thin”.

“In general we’re concerned with compliance at some Sydney restaurants … we don’t have any room for complacency and, as I foreshadowed last week, mandatory QR codes are still on the table for NSW,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“I mentioned last week that my patience is wearing thin and it certainly is, and I know a number of my colleagues share my concerns, and so we’re in constant discussions around that.”
