NSW records two new local cases of COVID-19 - NEWS.com.au

NSW has recorded two new cases of coronavirus in the community, while there were 10 cases in hotel quarantine.

Both local cases were linked to the Oran Park cluster, which has now grown to 25 cases.

The two infected people have been in isolation, NSW Health said.

Tuesday’s announcement brings the total number of cases in NSW to 4209.

NSW Health also said that concerns over a COVID-19 spread in Bathurst following the Bathurst 1000 touring car race have been eased.

There were calls last week for anyone who attended the race and felt symptoms to get tested following detection of traces of the virus in sewage.

“Members of the Bathurst community responded very well to these calls and subsequently no cases have been detected in the Bathurst community, or in those people associated with Bathurst 1000,” NSW Health’s Dr Jeremy McAnulty said in a video statement.

Subsequent analysis of sewage in the area done last Thursday showed no further evidence of coronavirus.

Tuesday’s announcement came as the Premier announced more than three million coronavirus tests have been carried out in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

“Three million COVID-19 tests is an incredible result,” Gladys Berejiklian said in a statement.

“As we ease restrictions, it is critical that we maintain our high rates of testing which has been central to our success in limiting the spread of the virus and keeping NSW open.”

The milestone was hit at 8pm on Monday night.

NSW broke its run of no community transmission for three days on Monday after recording one new local case also linked to the Oran Park cluster.

That person was a household contact of a previously reported case and had been in isolation.

On Sunday health authorities confirmed seven new cases of coronavirus, all coming from returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

The day before there were five cases, all in hotel quarantine.

On Tuesday Victoria recorded no new virus cases for the second day in a row.

It has been reported that the Victorian-NSW border may still stay closed for weeks.

The Australian is reporting that the Berejiklian government is concerned about Victoria’s ability to manage a new outbreak.

Ministers are expected to discuss the border reopening on Wednesday.
