As people start to be able to move a bit more freely within Victoria, one of the next steps is interstate travel.
Daniel Andrews said he would speak to NSW counterpart Glady Berejiklian this week about their shared border, with both leaders saying their eager not to keep the border closed even one day longer than is necessary. As Alexia Attwood reports.
"Last week Gladys Berejiklian was on record saying that once restrictions do ease in Victoria, they're going to sit back and watch and see how the state is faring, see if contact tracers can get on top of miniature outbreaks or small flare-ups that are likely to happen in Victoria, much like we're seeing in New South Wales. But the Premier will not want to be seen to be dragging her feet on this issue, because she has had such an open-border policy over the course of this pandemic, where it has been safe to do so."
And up in Queensland, former premier Peter Beattie is also calling for more open borders.
"This is now at a point where it's not about Labor or Liberal. I understand what the Queensland Government did and if I was there, I probably would have done the same thing. So, I'm not being critical of the past. I'm actually saying now is the time to move forward. Now is the time, whoever wins the Queensland election, whether it's Annastacia (Palaszczuk) or Deb Frecklington they're gonna be faced with an economic tsunami, not a good one. So, they've got to work out where to go from here."
