Sports talk radio’s ability to operate a full quarter with games on hiatus has been a tall order for stations around the country, including Atlanta’s 92.9 The Game.

Compared to their very impressive winter book, The Game dipped an average of two points throughout their weekday lineup in the target demo of men 25-54. According to Nielsen Audio, The Game’s morning drive show with John Fricke and Hugh Douglas finished fifth with a 5.8 share, down from a 7.3 in the winter book. The Game’s midday show with Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael finished fourth, with a 6.3, a more than two point dip from their 8.5 winter performance. The station’s popular afternoon drive show hosted by Carl Dukes and Mike Bell were down almost three points from the winter, finishing fourth with a 6.1 for the spring book.

Although the target demo was down in the sports-less spring, The Game’s weekday lineup did enjoy strong listenership with men 18-32, seeing each show finish either first or second in the market.

With social issues at the forefront of the national conversation, 95.5 WSB Atlanta’s News Talk took a clean sweep for the quarter in mornings, midday and afternoons, finishing first in all three timeslots and totaling a 12 share (M-F 6a-mid).

92.9’s top sports competition, 680 The Fan does not subscribe to Nielsen ratings, but according to data, the station’s top performance in the spring came during their morning hours. While Atlanta’s top two sports stations feature different business models, their ability to generate money remains more important than Nielsen numbers, especially during an unprecedented shutdown.
