After recording three new cases in Queensland – in addition to the teenage girls who travelled from Melbourne and into the Sunshine State without going into quarantine – Queensland had a simple message for all residents.
Now is not the time to travel.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, Deputy Premier and Health Minister Steven Miles warned Queenslanders to avoid travel outside of the state, given the record number of cases in Victoria and the growing clusters in parts of NSW.
“Now is not the time to travel,” he said to media.
“Any travel that can be avoided should be avoided. We want to do everything we can to keep Queensland safe.”
Queensland chief medical officer Dr Jeannette Young echoed the Deputy Premier, saying that no travel should be taken during the current climate.
“Don’t go to places where we know there are cases,” she said on Thursday.
“Don’t go overseas unless you really have to, don’t go to Victoria, anywhere in Victoria. And really reconsider if you need to go anywhere in New South Wales and particularly, don’t go to Greater Sydney.
“We know there are more cases there and that puts yourself at risk and your family at risk. And you will be required to quarantine in a hotel if you come back.”
On Wednesday, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced Greater Sydney was now considered a hotspot, meaning no one from the region would be allowed into her state from 1am on Saturday, August 1.
