Fourth teen charged after senior police officer allegedly assaulted in Sydney’s northern beaches - NEWS.com.au

A fourth teenager has been charged after a senior police officer was allegedly assaulted and mugged on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Police were called to Warriewood McDonald’s after reports that a large group was causing a disturbance inside on Friday night, NSW Police said in a statement.

After they ushered the group outside, police say a chief inspector, who was attempting to move on five teenagers, was knocked to the ground and had his mobile phone and badge stolen.

The group fled on foot into a park near the McDonald’s.

Police, including the dog unit, launched a search in the area. Police called on extra resources from other Local Area Commands to set up a perimeter around the reserve.

One officer chased an alleged offender onto a roof, and the structure collapsed on him.

The police officer suffered head injuries and needed hospital treatment.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy were later arrested and charged with a range of offences including affray and resisting or hindering a police officer.

They remain before the courts.

Police later arrested a 16-year-old boy at a Narrabeen home last night and he was charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty, affray, and resisting or hindering a police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court later on Sunday.

A fifth teenager is still at large, police said.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Jones described it as a “vicious attack” on the police officer.

“He was thrown to the ground, his shirt was ripped. It’s disgusting,” he said.

“Anyone who’s seen that footage and the unbelievably aggressive way …(you’ll see) it’s deplorable.”

The teenagers filmed the incident, so it has all been captured on camera.

Video shows the five teenagers taunting the officer with his own police ID and swearing profusely at him.

One of the boys can be heard shouting: and "What's your badge number? You f***ing dog. Where’s my hat? You f***ing dog. What's your badge number?"

When the police officer grabbed one of the teenagers, the ring leader shouted: "Get the f*** off him! Oi! Get off him cuz. He hasn't done anything wrong!"

The chief inspector was knocked to the ground, with the teenagers allegedly taking off with his mobile phone.
