Charges laid after teenager killed in Blacktown street brawl - Sydney Morning Herald

Five people have been charged and three others remain in hospital after a teenager was stabbed to death during a street brawl in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services found several males with stab wounds along Suffolk and William streets in Blacktown about 10pm on Wednesday. An 18-year-old man with a laceration to his abdomen died at the scene.

Two 15-year-old boys – one in a critical condition, the other in a serious condition – remained in the Children’s Hospital at Westmead on Friday.

A 13-year-old boy, who was one of six young males arrested, is being treated in the same hospital.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with affray, not disclosing the identity of a driver/passenger, driving a motor vehicle while his licence was suspended and not complying with COVID-19 directions.

He was refused police bail and is due to face Blacktown Local Court on Friday.

Blacktown is one of Sydney’s 12 local government areas of concern for COVID-19 cases. A curfew is in place from 9pm to 5am, except for those with a specific reasonable excuse to leave home.

Police charged three 17-year-old boys with affray and failing to comply with COVID-19 directions.

One of them was refused police bail, to face Parramatta Children’s Court on Friday. The other two were granted conditional bail and are due before a children’s court on September 14 and October 22 respectively.

A fourth boy, 17, was charged with breaching bail. He was refused bail and is also listed before Parramatta Children’s Court on Friday.

Superintendent Steve Egginton on Thursday said police believed “probably around 12 people” were involved in the incident and one line of inquiry is whether it was gang-related.

He said it was apparent that edged weapons and knives were used in the offence and a number of these weapons had been located.

“It’s a very sad indictment that we’ve got children of those tender years out there and getting involved in these types of instances,” Superintendent Egginton said.

Anyone with information or who has dashcam or CCTV from the area is urged to come forward.
