Victoria eases hotspot restrictions across parts of Greater Sydney - NEWS.com.au

Victoria has announced it will lift border restrictions with a string of NSW local government areas from today.

Speaking to media on Monday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said that 25 of the 35 Greater Sydney LGAs which have been on the Red List will move from red to orange at 6pm on Monday. This means people in those areas will be allowed to enter Victoria with a permit. They will still need to get tested within 72 hours of arrival and quarantine at their place of residence in Victoria until a negative result is produced.

Mr Andrews said the 10 remaining red zones in Sydney are Blacktown City, Canada Bay, Burwood, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield City, Inner West, Liverpool City, Parramatta City and Strathfield.

Mr Andrews said his decision to ease restrictions came after a long weekend of consideration and deliberation with health authorities.

“We’re not seeing cases and spread or contacts that are in isolation in those other 25 local government areas,” Mr Andrews said.

“I should also add that based on the same detailed analysis, from 6pm tonight, the Blue Mountains and Wollongong will also be downgraded from red to orange.”

Mr Andrews said the remaining 10 LGAs which are still considered as red zones by the Victorian Government will be reopened when health officials consider case numbers safe to do so.

On Saturday, Victoria downgraded travel restrictions in Queensland by announcing that people from Brisbane will be allowed to travel to the Garden State.

As of Saturday evening, the Brisbane local government areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Logan and Ipswich were downgraded from a “red zone” to an “orange zone”.

Like NSW, that means people travelling from orange zones can apply online for a permit to enter Victoria.

Arrivals need to get tested for COVID-19 within three days of arriving in Victoria, but only need to isolate until they get a negative result.
