Two pedestrians were killed in a horror crash at the close of Australia Day as an allegedly stolen car collided with an oncoming truck and struck them as it rolled in Brisbane’s Bayside.
Emergency services were called to a three-vehicle collision around 5.30pm on Finucane Road, near Vienna Road at Alexandra Hills, Queensland Police said in a statement.
“Initial investigations suggest an alleged stolen Toyota Landcruiser was driving dangerously through an intersection and collided into an oncoming truck,” said the statement.
“The Toyota Landcruiser has struck two pedestrians as it rolled. They died at the scene.”
The driver of the alleged stolen car was a 17-year-old boy, who ran from the scene before being arrested by police nearby, acccording to the statement,
He was taken to hospital for minor injuries.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told news.com.au that ten crews, including critical care units and the medical director attended the scene of the crash at 5.44pm.
“Two patients, an adult male and adult female, were treated at the scene for critical injuries,” the spokesperson said.
“Another three patients, including two adults and a child were assessed but were uninjured and didn’t require transport to hospital.”
Finucane Road is expected to be closed for several hours as investigations continue, and drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible.
