Two children have been killed after they were mowed down by a car in central west NSW.

Emergency crews are at the scene, where multiple children were hit in a high-speed crash at Wellington, north of Dubbo at around 4.30pm Tuesday afternoon. 

NSW Police have confirmed two children have died while two others and an adult have been injured after a group of five pedestrians were struck by a car.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene.

Emergency services, including 10 ambulances and at least two rescue helicopters were dispatched and remain at the scene in Warne Street. 

'Those injured are expected to be airlifted or transported to hospital,' a police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia. 

'Police have been told the driver of the vehicle left the scene prior to officers arriving and investigations are continuing.'

One child was airlifted to Sydney in a serious condition. 

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police have established a crime scene, which will be examined by Crash Investigation Unit detectives, who are en route. 

Footage from the cordoned off scene shows strewn personal belongings and a damaged fence.
