UPDATE: DFES have upgraded their bushfire alert for Kwinana residents saying it is now too late to leave. The affected area is for people bounded by McLaughlan Road, Thomas Road, Mason Road, Leath Road, Hogg Road and Hope Valley Road in The Spectacles, Orelia, Medina, Naval base, Postans, Kwinana Beach and Hope Valley in Kwinana.

The winds have changed, and the fire is now moving in a west-north westerly direction at 1km/h. 174 hectares have been burnt so far.

The Kwinana fire jumped Abercrombie Road after starting near the intersection of Thomas Road and Gilmore Avenue in Orelia.

The fire has already spread to the Kwinana rubbish tip and people are urged to avoid the area as hazardous fumes are in the air.

UPDATE: A bushfire warning has been issued to people living in the City of Gosnells as an out-of-control fire is threatening lives and homes.

The fire has already spread to a building in Martin.

An evacuation centre is now open at The Agonis, located at 2232 Albany Highway, Gosnells.

The warning applies to people travelling on Tonkin Highways between Albany Highway and Mills Road East, and in surrounding areas in parts of Gosnells and Martin in the City of Gosnells. Motorists are asked to avoid the Tonkin Highway, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

Homes in Connell Avenue are under threat by fire now. The fire started near the intersection of Connell Avenue and Milleara Road in Martin.

People sheltering in place should close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.

They should shelter in a room with two exits and water such as a kitchen or laundry and if they are out they should not return home.

People self-isolating should find alternative accommodation away from the area but maintain social distance where possible, and phone WA Police on 131 444 to advise them they have had to leave due to an emergency.
