HOLMDEL, NJ. The Holmdel School district welcomed back their students to full day classes on Monday - a welcome relief for families across the town. Virtual is still an option but for those who choose to go back to school, they will wave to the bus as their children enjoy a full day of education as they move into 2021. Village and Indian Hill are in school buildings all day. Satz and High School are in school in the morning and finish remotely. The Holmdel Board of Education was united in their efforts to bring normalcy back to a scientifically healthy cohort (students) and it appears the efforts have paid off. Governor Murphy and others have long stated that in school education is one of the safest places for children, pandemic or no pandemic.
This New Years gift is not shared by many districts across the state and the intense planning and over a million dollar investment has hit its mark according to school leadership. The letter from the Superintendent shared the following:
"We are excited to welcome all of our students back from winter break and are fortunate to be able to continue with in-person instruction as we begin 2021 (virtual learning is still an available option for families). The cohort schedule is no longer in effect. Students at Village and Indian Hill will continue with the full time instructional schedule that commenced prior to the winter break. Students at Satz and the High School will begin with their full time instructional program tomorrow, which is a combination full day in-person/virtual program, as follows:
Morning Session: All students in Grades 7-12 will receive four hours of in-person instruction. Students should report directly to their first period class. The start time for the High School is at 7:30 and for Satz at 8:15. At lunchtime, all students will be dismissed (HS at 11:45 am and Satz at 12:30 pm).
Afternoon Session: Students will continue to receive virtual instruction from at home for the last 80 minutes of the instructional day.
By working together to follow these guidelines, we can help us keep our teachers and students healthy and in our classrooms. Your cooperation and support has been crucial to reopening our schools for in-person instruction programs which we believe enhances the educational and emotional well being of our students."
With vaccinations being rolled out and the rate of virus transmission stabilizing, in school full-time may be back to the new - and old - standard for Holmdel families.
