Daryl Maguire returns to third day in ICAC witness box after disclosing business deals to Gladys Berejiklian - ABC News

Disgraced former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire will return for a third day of evidence at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) after the hearings were cut short yesterday due to privacy concerns.

A dump of documents revealed by ICAC yesterday afternoon reveal Premier Gladys Berejiklian met her secret boyfriend's business partner, Phillip Elliott, for a dinner "at Daryl's place".

Mr Elliott was a director of a company that was being used as part of a "cash-for-visa" scheme.

Follow all the action live.

Liberals continue to rally around Gladys

Senior Liberal colleagues of Gladys Berejiklian are again throwing their support behind their leader this morning.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance says none of the evidence put forward by Daryl Maguire has changed the Premier's account of events.

The ICAC released documents yesterday that revealed the Premier had two dinners with Daryl Maguire, his business partner Phil Elliott and his partner Karen Barbey in Wagga Wagga.

Mr Constance said it didn't raise any alarm bells.

"Mr Elliott was a campaign official and he was Daryl Maguire's campaign manager so it's not going to surprise me that the Premier might have had dinner after a function in Wagga with him.

"I think the key point to make is that the Premier has thousands of dinners and lunches and breakfasts with many, many people so I wouldn't read too much into that."

Mr Constance says he thinks the evidence the Premier gave on Monday will stand.

"There is no accusation against the Premier, the Premier has done nothing wrong."

Premier had dinner with Maguire's closest business associate

More than 2,200 pages of evidence were publicly released by the ICAC yesterday afternoon which made for some heavy reading.

FYI, these were separate to the private transcripts accidentally published by the ICAC and later withdrawn.

Our reporter Ursula Malone has gone through this evidence, which mainly consists of interview transcripts, and made some interesting findings:

The documents revealed that Gladys Berejiklian attended two dinners with Daryl Maguire and his close friend and business associate Phillip Elliott.

One dinner took place at an unknown date at Mr Maguire's house in Wagga Wagga and Mr Elliott's partner, Karen Barbey, was also in attendance.

The other dinner was at the Romano's Hotel in Wagga Wagga and was attended by the same foursome.

The details of the dinners came to light during an interview with Ms Barbey recorded at the Wagga Wagga Police station in July 2019.

In it, Ms Barbey admitted to transferring money to G8Way International - a firm Mr Maguire effectively controlled.

Over the last two days, Mr Maguire has admitted to using his parliamentary office and resources to gain benefits for G8Way International.

He also said he used G8way International to provide "highest level access to the government" for private business projects.

Let's recap

In case you missed some of the drama yesterday (there was a lot of it) let's catch you up:

  • At his second day of evidence at ICAC, former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire admitted to running property deals past the Premier as he wanted to build a financial future with her

  • Mr Maguire said he had an "on-again, off-again" relationship with Gladys Berejiklian from 2015 and that the two split earlier in August

  • The ICAC paused its public livestream and conducted a private hearing for matters that "trespassed" on the personal relationship of Ms Berejiklian and Mr Maguire but accidentally published the transcript on their website before taking it down 30 minutes later

  • Mr Maguire admitted he used his parliamentary office to facilitate a Western Sydney development deal which he discussed with Ms Berejiklian

  • The Upper House passed a motion which requires Ms Berjeiklian to hand over certain emails to parliament after she revealed to the ICAC that she had a private email address
