Confusion over fire permits in Victoria (while we wait for the official DHHS figures)
The Victorian Opposition says people are confused about a permit scheme to enable Melburnians to do fire prevention works on their holiday homes in regional areas.
The State Government says from Thursday local councils will provide 72 hour travel permits to home owners in flood and fire prone areas.
But regional Victorian councils say they're in the dark about how to issue them.
Shadow Emergency Services Minister Nick Wakeling said it's crucial that people can get to their properties to prepare for the bushfire season.
"Melburnians want to be able to travel to regional Victoria to prepare their property in the lead up to the fire season," Mr Wakeling said.
"There is confusion in council, there is confusion in the government and at the end of the day Victorians are unable to get to their properties."

Can I go mow the grass at mum's property in regional Victoria?
I have the key to the gate of my mum's vacant property 50 klms away Melbourne Metro area. She's in aged care. It's been 3 months since the backyard has been mown. Can I travel to mow the property.-Allen
Hi Allen, hope you're mum's doing well.
Looks like you might have to apply for a travel permit from the local council.
People in regional Victoria can travel to their holiday homes in regional areas, but Melburnians can't.
Melbourne residents with holiday homes in regional areas will have to get a travel permit from the local council.
That gives them a 72-hour window to prepare their homes in fire or flood-prone areas.
Travelling to do that work should only be done as a "last resort" and if you do go, the Melbourne restrictions travel with you.

When will regional Victorians be able to travel into NSW?
When will regional Victorians be able to travel throughout NSW-Robert
Congratulations Robert. This is the first question of the day.
It's also one of the most popular questions at the moment.
The simple answer is that we just don't know yet (just like we don't know what time the Victorian Premier will speak today).
However, Premier Daniel Andrews said yesterday the opening of borders to regional Victorians was on the radar for leaders in NSW and South Australia.
So watch this space.

Wyndham and Hume continue to top the list of Victorian local government areas with active coronavirus cases.
Wyndham, in Melbourne's south-west has 18 active cases and Hume in the city's north-west has 17.
Three of the four new cases of the virus yesterday were from the same household in Hume.
The overall number of active infections in Victoria has dropped to 136.
Nine active cases are linked to Box Hill Hospital in the city's east, which yesterday started fit testing N95 face masks for staff.
Premier Daniel Andrews says if the number of daily and mystery cases stays low, he may make an announcement on Sunday about bringing forward the next relaxation of restrictions.

Health alert issued for south east Sydney
NSW Health has issued a new public health alert for south east Sydney as it tries to track down the source of a positive coronavirus case confirmed late last week.
It's believed the person visited the Ramsgate and Kingsford areas while potentially infectious during the first two weeks of October.
They went to several cafes for short periods of time to order take away, but no venues of concern have been identified.
Health authorities say people with even the mildest symptoms from that area need to get tested as soon as possible and isolate until a negative test result is received.
