China-Australia relations 'back on track', says Chinese Premier Li Qiang - 9News

Li Qiang has begun his four-day visit to Australia, the first trip a Chinese premier has made to Australia in seven years.

In a statement released by the Chinese embassy, Li said bilateral relations were "back on track after a period of twists and turns".

Li commented on Australia's unique position to connect the West and the East as "an important force of economic globalisation and world multipolarity".

"A more mature, stable and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership will be a treasure shared by the people of both countries," he said.

China's second most senior leader arrived at Adelaide Zoo today where he visited Fu Ni and Wang Wang, two pandas on loan from China.

The duo have not successfully bred, and may be replaced with a more fertile pair, another positive sign of China's willingness towards political engagement with Anthony Albanese.

Li will then visit Magill Estate winery where he will meet with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

On Monday, he will travel to Canberra where he and the Prime Minister are expected to discuss the removal of China's remaining "trade impediments".
