COVID in WA: Cases dip as another Western Australian with the virus dies - PerthNow

The State’s COVID cases dipped to 4052 overnight as another Western Australian with the virus was reported dead.

A woman, aged in her 40s, passed away with COVID on June 6, however, her death was reported to WA Health on Friday.

Her death comes after 5311 infections on Friday and Thursday’s devastating news that 14 West Australians had succumbed to the deadly virus.

There are 13 people battling the virus in WA intensive care units and a total of 277 people with COVID-19 are in hospital.

The State has 32,666 active cases and marked a total 847,823 cases since the pandemic began.

The daily cases were confirmed by 2781 self-reported positive rapid antigen tests and 1271 positive PCR tests from a total of 6369 conducted on Friday.

In the regions, the Perth Metro recorded 3223 of the new cases while the South West tallied 325.

The Mid West had 120 new infections, Great Southern and Wheatbelt each recorded 84, Goldfields had 70, Pilbara marked 66, and Kimberley had the lowest number of new cases with 34.

The remaining 46 COVID cases hadn’t been assigned to a residential postcode yet, with the data to be reconfigured as information is verified.

On Saturday, WA Health officially changed their reporting periods to end at 6pm, to align them with other jurisdictions.

Anyone experiencing symptoms is urged to get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.
