Melbourne cinemas, gyms and other indoor venues reopen

Something to smile about this morning.

Indoor entertainment venues, gyms, fitness centres and more can now reopen in Melbourne after yesterday's announcement of the easing of further restrictions.

Some Melburnians were so keen they even went to midnight screenings last night (above).

"A lot of people have been calling out locally for us to reopen," Michael Smith from Sun Theatre in Yarraville, in Melbourne's inner west, told the ABC.

"Both residents who live locally and love coming to the cinema, but also other members of the village — people with cafes, restaurants, gift shops — who rely on people coming to the cinema to frequent their businesses."

The new rules mean indoor entertainment venues can open with a maximum of 20 people per indoor space, allowing museums, galleries, music halls and more to get up and running again after months of lockdown.

Melbourne's restrictions have been brought in line with regional Victoria's, which means gyms, libraries and other community venues in the city can reopen. Hospitality businesses can also now host more people.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
