Victoria's new household visiting rules seem simple enough — but like most things in 2020, there's a few complications to work through.
Here's what the new rules mean for you.
What are the new household visiting rules for Melbourne?
From 11:59pm on October 27 two adults, plus their dependents, from one household, can visit another household in Melbourne.
Dependents mean anyone you live with who can't be left home alone, which could mean young children, elderly relatives or someone with a disability.
How many visits per day?
Only one.
That means if you visit someone at lunchtime, or someone visits you, you can't then go to another house for dinner.
You would have to wait until the next day.
You also can't invite people over to your home, and then visit another home in the same day.
"If you're having visitors, you can't be a visitor to somebody else's home," Premier Daniel Andrews said.
"And if they have visited you, they can only visit you on that one day.
"So it's one visiting event."
Can I have different visitors each day?
Yes, you can visit different people each day.
"It's not a bubble arrangement, you can have different visitors each day," Mr Andrews said.
As long as each household sticks to the limit of one "visiting event" per day.
Can the two adult visitors be from different households?
No.
The rules are designed to only allow two separate households to come into contact through home visiting events each day.
What if I live in a share house or have older kids?
Because the limit of one visit per day applies to households, not individuals, you're going to have to work out some kind of roster.
If your housemate visits another household for lunch, you can't then go to a different household for dinner.
This also applies to families with older children who might want to visit their friends.
If your teenager goes to visit a friend at home, that's your household's visit done for the day.
You, or other children who want to visit their friends at home, would have to wait until tomorrow to do so.
How far can I travel to visit another home?
The border between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria remains in place until November 9 and cannot be crossed for the purposes of visiting.
In regional Victoria, you can travel as far as you like to visit someone at home and the two adult visitors can be from different households.
Regional Victorians can also visit others after hosting people at their home in one day.
In metropolitan Melbourne you must stick to the 25km travel limit, which is also in place until November 9.
I want to see my whole family. Why is it capped at two adults?
Mr Andrews said it came down to the risk of contracting coronavirus in the setting where you're most relaxed.
"I know it's not a nice thing to say and it's not a nice thing for anyone to acknowledge, but the place where you feel safest, your home, is actually the most dangerous environment for the spread of this virus," he said.
"That's why there have to be rules and if we all follow those rules then we will keep each other safe."
But there are still other options if you want to catch up with a larger group.
Up to 10 people from multiple households can still meet up outdoors, for example at a beach or park, and restaurants will be allowed to seat groups of up to 10 people.
Do I have to wear a mask or keep a log book?
Mr Andrews has asked people to keep track of their visits so it's easy to recall who they've been in contact with if it emerges that someone has coronavirus.
This could be a note in your diary or calendar.
"We don't think that's too much to ask," he said.
"If there is an issue, days later, it's always preferable to be able to simply search and have an accurate picture of who came and visited you. It's a small thing but it can play a big part."
On the issue of masks, the Premier's recommendation is that people "wear masks whenever they can".
"We can't enforce that, though. I'm just being frank about it, we're not going to have police knocking on every door, every day," he said.
"But we just ask people to use some common sense because that's what's got us here."
