Aged care might not be ready for more outbreaks, doctor warns
A doctor who reviewed the coronavirus outbreak that forced the Royal Melbourne Hospital to close its Royal Park campus is calling for more precautions in high-risk settings, warning more needs to be done to prevent a repeat of the aged care outbreaks that left almost 650 people dead.
Kate Gregorovic, a geriatrician at the hospital, said one of the most surprising things was that not all patients showed the same symptoms.
So really interestingly, less than 20 per cent of our patients had a fever, some had a cough and some became confused.
It just goes to show how challenging diagnosing COVID can be and how challenging it can be in this age group.

Fifteen new cases in Victoria, no deaths, 14-day average rises
Melbourne's 14-day average has risen to 9.9, up from 9.3 yesterday.
Regional Victoria's average remains at 0.4.
The number of cases in Melbourne with an unknown source sits at 11.

What's the latest with Victoria and masks?
Some new, more strict rules around mask wearing are coming into force in Victoria today. The short version is:
As of today, all Victorians must wear a fitted mask when leaving the house.
This applies to all Victorians no matter where they live.
Bandanas, scarves and face shields alone are no longer acceptable.
You can still wear a shield that covers your forehead and the sides of your face but it must be worn with a mask.
The penalty for not wearing a mask is $200.

The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can live for up to 28 days on surfaces such as mobile phone screens and ATMs — much longer than previously thought — new Australian research has found.
CSIRO scientists tested the SARS-CoV-2 virus to see how long it survived on surfaces such as cotton, paper, stainless steel, glass and vinyl.
According to Trevor Drew, director of the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness:
Touchscreen devices such as mobile phones, bank ATMs, supermarket self-serve checkouts and airport check-in kiosks are high-touch surfaces which may not be regularly cleaned and pose a transmission risk.

Foodbank records dramatic surge during coronavirus
Each year, Foodbank releases a report into food insecurity in Australia, and as you can probably imagine 2020's paints a pretty dire picture.
The number of people suffering from food insecurity and requiring relief has risen sharply, and even more interesting are the age demographics of the most affected.
The survey also says that a majority of people requiring food relief do not believe government schemes like JobKeeper and JobSeeker have been helpful to them:
Of those who are in need of government assistance, only 38% suggest this assistance has helped their situation, whereas 62% are not receiving the help they need (37% needed additional assistance, 21% were ineligible, 4% found it too difficult to apply).
