'Threat to public safety' prompts two separate exclusion zones from Queensland Police overnight - 9News

Queensland Police made two emergency declarations overnight – one in Mt Isa and the other in Cairns.

They were both "due to an ongoing operation" in Mt Isa and Mount Sheridan, respectively. However, the latter declaration has since been revoked.

The two incidents are not believed to be connected.

Authorities were called to an address within the exclusion zone in Mt Isa around 10.10pm, where "a threat to public safety was identified" and the declaration was issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA).

Queensland Police are asking members of the public to avoid the area and people within the exclusion zones are being told to remain indoors.

A few hours later, authorities in Cairns declared an exclusion zone under the PSPA at 1.05am Saturday, which included Bulimba Cresent, Adonis Street, and Bunyip Close.

The alert to residents came after police were called to an address within the exclusion zone around 12:15am, where a threat to public safety was identified, resulting in the declaration.

At 4.44am police announced they'd revoked the emergency declaration for the Mount Sheridan area, after a man was taken into custody around 4am.

The man is currently assisting police with their enquires following a reported domestic violence incident.
