Man charged with dangerous driving over fatal car crash, which killed five people - ABC News

Police have charged an 18-year-old man over a fatal car crash south-west of Sydney, which killed five teenagers.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the Tuesday night crash at Buxton, and was the only survivor.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment, before being released on Wednesday.

After he was released from hospital, police arrested him about 1:50pm on Wednesday, and he was taken to Narellan police station.

He has been charged with five counts of dangerous driving occasioning death — driving in a manner dangerous.

The Bargo man has been refused bail and will appear at Picton Local Court on Thursday.

Police described the scene of the crash as "confronting".

Acting Inspector Jason Hogan, from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit said the driver's breath test at the scene was negative.

"At this stage, we are investigating all lines of inquiry, but our preliminary investigations would indicate that speed is a possible factor in relation to this crash," he said.

Acting Inspector Hogan said the teenagers' families were being offered support.

As investigations continue, police are appealing for anyone with dashcam or social media footage to come forward.
