Queensland man killed in train crash near Rockhampton - NEWS.com.au

A man has died and two others were rushed to hospital after two trains collided in Central Queensland.

The trains were heading west on Friday morning, one empty and the other loaded with coal, when the tragic crash occurred in Westwood, near Rockhampton.

A 49-year-old Margate man who was working at the site died at the scene.

One of the trains reportedly ran into the rear of the other, according to a Facebook post from the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service.

Two other workers were also injured, including a 43-year-old who was flown to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition.

RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service said it had flown “one male patient in his mid-40s suffering suspected fractures to their leg and arm, in addition to a head and possible spinal injuries”.

The other worker, a 41-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was transported by road to the same hospital.

The Capricorn Highway was closed for about two hours after the incident and the forensic crash unit continue to investigate the tragedy.
