A woman has been charged with murder after a police officer was hit and killed by an allegedly stolen car in Queensland.
Senior Constable David Masters died after being struck on the Hume Highway, north of Brisbane in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The burnt-out vehicle was later discovered in Moodlu.
A 24-year old woman, who police alleged was a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested at an Upper Caboolture address on Sunday morning.
She has been charged with murder, arson (motor vehicle), and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she was informed of the incident early on Saturday morning and had passed on her condolences to Mr Masters’ family.
“(It’s) an absolute tragedy ... Our thoughts and our prayers, I think of all Queenslanders, are with Dave‘s family during this time. Absolutely tragic,” she told reporters on Sunday.
The woman has been refused bail and will appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday.
Homicide investigators were attempting to locate the alleged driver, and anyone with information is being urged to come forward.
