Foolish to be defiant: Have you resisted getting the COVID-19 inoculation? Pay attention: inoculated people have less risk. More than 95% of the current upswing in virus cases have among people who have not been inoculated. If you are doing this just to be defiant or letting yourself be mislead as to its value, think how foolish that is for an excuse?

Riddle me this: Our exiled ex-president has knowingly distorted the truth to further his own ends and to undermine whatever trust is left between the American people and their government. Worse yet, after the events of Jan. 6, it’s become frighteningly obvious that total anarchy is now within his grasp. At this pivotal juncture in our nation’s history one can’t escape the million dollar question: what, if anything, will stop him?

Good life experience: Thank goodness for teenagers. They’re willing to bus tables and work as lifeguards. Back in the ’70s, when I was a teenager, we all had summer jobs. The jobs even extended into the school year. Don’t you think some of the labor shortage is due to teenagers not wanting to work? They don’t need to when parents are purchasing their cars and paying their cellphone bills and car insurance. I learned a lot when working as a teenager. Most teens these days are missing that life learning experience.

July 4 war zone: Thank goodness the Fourth of July is over. In my neck of the woods, it was like living in a war zone. The fireworks started early in the morning and ended at 12:15 a.m. They did not miss a beat. The big event was saved until after dark, when they shot several big rounds that sent out a big boom that set off alarms in cars. I was told one person who went to Indiana to purchase fireworks spent $185! This left a bitter taste in my mouth. I hope they did not use the stimulus money to pay for this.

Country deserves respect: Because of the First Amendment, Gwen Berry can be as disrespectful as she chooses to be about the American flag, as sad as that is. But when she is representing the United States of America at the Olympics, she needs to be respectful to the country she is representing. Otherwise I’m sure there are many countries out there she can go represent but I guarantee you they will never, ever allow disrespect of their country’s flag.
