COVID live blog: - ABC News

Residents of an apartment building in Melbourne's north-west have been told to quarantine for two weeks after a removalist who later tested positive to COVID-19 worked there.

Exposure sites linked to the removalist have been identified in both NSW and Victoria but not in SA, which he also visited.

New case in quarantine in the NT

The Northern Territory has recorded one new COVID-19 case after a woman from the US Army tested positive while in quarantine.

The 22-year-old arrived in the Territory on July 8 and was quarantined at the Army’s facility Bladin Village (a former detention centre 50 kilometres from Darwin).

Authorities say the woman has mild symptoms and is under the care of NT Health at the NT Centre for National Resilience.

The new COVID case brings the Territory’s total number of active cases to nine.

Essential work vs normal travel

Hi. Just wondering, if people returned on a red zone permit, why are there exposure sites at shops? Don't they need to go straight home? Thanks

-Sharon

I was under the impression that if you are returning to Victoria from a red zone, you are supposed to be quarantining, not going to supermarkets. Am I misunderstood?

-Victorian

Authorities in Victoria are still working with NSW to investigate exactly what permit the removalist who travelled across the border had.

But Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley told us yesterday that there are permitted reasons for people to come into the state, including removalists, and there's "every prospect" that that's the case for this person who has since tested positive.

Basically, authorities are looking at the possibility of this person not having to quarantine because of the essential work permit they may have held. We should hear more about the specifics of this at some stage, but it is all still under investigation.

Apartment complex exposure site

Morning Kelsie. Why is the Ariele apartment complex listed as an exposure site on 10 and 11 July when the COVID positive removalists left Vic on 9 July?

-Oh-so-confused

The Ariele Apartments are listed as a Tier 1 exposure site from 1pm to midnight on July 8, because that's the day the removalist was there.

The complex is listed as a Tier 2 exposure site from July 9 to 12 because Victorian authorities want everyone who was there in those days afterwards (but not necessarily there while the removalist was there) to get tested and isolate until they have a negative result

Crossover with a Tier 1 exposure site means you need to quarantine for 14 days regardless of whether you test negative or not.

No new exposure sites in SA at this stage

Hi Kelsie,

What about the SA exposure sites from the removalists?

-Worried SA

South Australian authorities told us in a press conference yesterday afternoon that there are no known exposure sites in the state linked to that removalilst from NSW at this stage, and the SA contact tracing website is still consistent with that at the moment.

The family linked to the removalist are in quarantine and have so far tested negative.

Sydney boaties fined after lying on border declarations to watch rugby match

Four men from Sydney have been fined after lying on their border declarations to get into Queensland via a superyacht.

The men arrived at Southport marina on the Gold Coast via a 34-metre superyacht on July 7, before travelling to Brisbane to watch the rugby test match at Lang Park.

Queensland Police and Maritime Safety Queensland found the men days later and placed them into hotel quarantine.

They were each fined $4,000 for lying on their declaration passes, and have tested negative for COVID-19.

Full story on this here.
