One in four NSW MPs yet to receive COVID-19 vaccine

Wondering how many NSW politicians have received a COVID-19 vaccination? Well, I’ve got good news.
The Herald has conducted a survey of 90 state politicians, with close to a quarter of respondents revealing they’re yet to be vaccinated, while 21 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Labor had a slightly higher vaccination rate with 30 of 37 MPs vaccinated compared to 18 of 24 Liberal MPs who shared their status.
NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham, 60, said he had tried twice unsuccessfully to register for the Pfizer vaccine and would wait until it was available to him before being vaccinated, despite being eligible for AstraZeneca.
Red zone workers have green light to shop in Victoria

Workers entering Victoria from red zones, including Sydney, are allowed to shop for food and medical supplies while serving 14 days’ quarantine under more lenient conditions than those granted to returning Victorians residents.

Under all permits, there is no obligation for workers to get tested before they enter the state – a condition experts say would add a crucial extra layer of protection against incursions of the virus.
The Melbourne outbreak stood at 26 on Friday, with more than 150 exposure sites and 6500 people classified as close contacts.

Victorians travelling to NSW to be subjected to stay home rules

Anyone travelling to NSW from Victoria will be subject to stay-at-home orders under new restrictions imposed by the Berejiklian government overnight.
The restrictions were implemented at 12.01am on Saturday and mean Victorians will remain subjected to the stay home orders imposed by the Andrews government even if they leave the state to travel north.
The previous exemption for NSW border region residents will remain in place, and people do not need to follow the stay home orders if the only areas they’ve been in Victoria are within the designated border region.
Declaration requirements are still in place for people who have been in Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory in the previous 14 days, with the exception of those living and travelling in the NSW/Victoria border region.
People who have been to a close-contact venue must not enter NSW unless they are a NSW resident, or are travelling to the ACT, according to the statement.
New Sydney coronavirus venues published

Sydney shopping centres and bus routes are among a list of new close contact venues released by the NSW government overnight.
Kmart at the Fairfield Forum, the Better Health Pharmacy in Seven Hills and Grindley Constructions in Gordon were listed as close contact venues late on Friday night.
Four different bus routes servicing Bankstown were also added as close contact sites, including a M91 service on Sunday, July 11, and Monday July 12.

More than 20 casual contact venues were also published, with a host of supermarkets across Sydney included in the list which stretches from Eastern Creek to Chatswood.
NSW Health issued a correction to the Fairfield Forum venue on Sunday July 11, which is incorrectly marked as being in Seven Hills in the published list. The shopping centre is in Fairfield.
Vaccinated people catching COVID are no cause for alarm: experts

Cases of fully vaccinated Australians catching COVID-19 are part and parcel of how vaccines work and should not raise undue concerns.
Experts in the field say vaccines against COVID-19 dramatically cut a person’s risk of being infected and of getting seriously ill or dying but do not offer 100 per cent protection. However, if a vaccinated person does catch the virus, they are at dramatically lower risk of passing it on.
NSW looks set to clamp down on retail
Almost 170 mystery cases spread across 20 Sydney local government areas have put the Berejiklian government on course to order more retail businesses to close their doors in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19.
NSW crisis cabinet ministers convened for health briefings late on Friday after Premier Gladys Berejiklian earlier foreshadowed that more needed to be done to stop people from moving around the city’s south-west.

Options under consideration included limiting how far residents in Fairfield could travel beyond the local government area, restrictions on exercise and tightening rules around some high-risk workplaces, such as those visited by a wide range of workers.
The ministers are due to meet again on Saturday morning ahead of an announcement, which is initially expected to focus on tightening rules around non-essential retail.

Here’s what you need to know as we start the day:
- NSW recorded 97 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday – 46 of those were in the community for at least some of their infectious periods. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian anticipates today’s numbers will be even higher and the government is looking at forcing more retail shops to close.
- Greater Sydney is in the midst of a lockdown that will run for at least another two weeks. The NSW Premier says health authorities are reviewing the state’s restrictions and “if we need to go harder, of course we will”.
- Australian Medical Association President Dr Omar Khorshid called on NSW to implement a “Victoria-style lockdown,” calling it “absolutely ridiculous” that upmarket stores in Greater Sydney are still open during lockdown.
- Victoria has entered the first day of its snap five-day lockdown today, its fifth lockdown of the pandemic. The state recorded six new local cases on Friday on top of four cases announced late on Thursday.
- The number of exposure sites in Victoria on Friday night hit 155. View the full list here.
- WA has closed its border to the entire eastern seaboard after WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson announced a hard border with Victoria.
- Queensland has declared Victoria a COVID-19 hotspot from 1am on Saturday. “Anyone returning after that time will have to do the 14 days’ mandatory quarantine,” Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
