NSW: Will second doses of the Pfizer vaccine be delayed?

NSW will administer more first doses of Pfizer by increasing the time between the two jabs from three to six weeks (you can read more on that here).

Asked if people's second doses will be delayed, Ms Berejiklian said in south-western Sydney in particular "we have community pharmacists that are now ready and willing to provide AstraZeneca".

"We have New South Wales Health hubs in additional spots that can provide AstraZeneca. So whilst our doses of Pfizer are limited, we have sufficient AstraZeneca for people who want to get the vaccine, so I'm urging everybody to come forward.

"We have addition pop-ups and hubs across Sydney, whether it's GPs, pharmacists, New South Wales Health hubs and providing opportunities to outreach into community locations where people feel comfortable in coming forward and getting the vaccine."

NSW: Could the anti-lockdown protests delay the end of lockdown?

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says "we know that events like that can cause those super-spreading events".

"We don't want a setback, and yesterday could have been a set back. Time will tell," she said.

"But I'm just so utterly disgusted, disappointed and heartbroken that people don't consider the safety and wellbeing of their fellow citizens.

"Each of those people who illegally protested, I'm sure, have significant loved ones. How would they feel if they went home in their day-to-day life and gave the disease to their loved ones?"

NSW: 510 penalty infringement notices issued in last 24 hours

NSW Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys says the majority of those were issued to people "whose behaviour yesterday in and around Sydney could only be described as violent behaviour, filthy behaviour, risky behaviour".

"A strike force is set up right at this moment that continues to ask for people to bring forward any video files or telephone footage that they have of that sort of behaviour.

"The community spoke and the community has said they will not tolerate it and we ask people to upload those files to upload any information that they have to Crime Stoppers."

NSW: Close contact of positive case flew from Sydney to Ballina on July 14

Dr McAnulty says authorities have been notified of a person who is now in Queensland "who had been on a flight while knowing that they were a close contact".

Anyone who travelled on July 14 on Virgin flight VA1139 from Sydney to Ballina, arriving around 11:45am AEST, is considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate.

"He was tested on 12 July following identification of a workplace exposure. He was advised he was a close contact and to isolate for 14 days regardless of the test result," he said.

"We understand he got a test result which was mistakenly provided by a private lab to inform him he was negative, but this didn't change the fact that he had to isolate for 14 days.

"On 20 July, we were advised that the swab was in fact positive and following genome sequencing tests, the case was immediately contacted and interviewed further that day.

Dr McAnulty said the man claimed he had been isolating since July 10, "however, we know this is not true".

"We believed he travelled to Queensland on July 14 and we are concerned about the nature and extent of his exposures on the flight and in the community both in New South Wales and in Queensland," he said.

NSW: Anti-lockdown protest 'just broke my heart', says Berejiklian

Ms Berejiklian says she was "disgusted" by yesterday's anti-lock down protests across Sydney.

"It broke my heart. Millions and millions of people across our state are doing the right thing, and it just broke my heart that people had such a disregard for their fellow citizens," she said.

"I just ask everybody to think about that. Each of those people who protested illegally, I'm sure have loved ones. They are going to go home and risk passing that virus onto the most closest people to them."

She said those doing the wrong thing "should be ashamed of yourselves".

Positive case in NSW travelled into Queensland while infectious

As we just heard, one new case tested positive while in New South Wales and will be counted in NSW numbers.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young says that case is a close contact of the Qantas flight crew member who tested positive a few days, and is believed to be the "index case".

She says they travelled into Queensland while infectious on July 14.

"So it's clear that those two people have now been out in about in Brisbane and the Gold Coast since the 14th of July," she said.

"So I ask anyone in Brisbane or the Gold Coast who has any symptoms at all, it's critical you come forward."

Bali running out of oxygen as coronavirus restrictions set to end

Reuters

Popular tourism destination Bali is running out of oxygen for its COVID-19 patients as infections surge, the chief of its health agency said, as South-East Asia's biggest country struggles with the region's worst COVID epidemic.

Bali, along with Indonesia's main island of Java and 15 other regions, is under tight coronavirus restrictions, due to expire on Sunday.

The government is debating whether to extend them.

"We've had an oxygen shortage since July 14 and it's getting critical by the day because of a surge in new cases," Ketut Suarjaya, the head of Bali's health agency, told the Antara state news agency on Friday.

"There's an oxygen crisis in Bali."

Snow leopard at San Diego Zoo in the US tests positive for COVID-19

AP

Ramil, a nine-year-old male snow leopard, was tested for the virus after caretakers noticed that he had a cough and runny nose on Thursday.

The animal's stool sample was tested by the zoo staff and at a state-level lab, both of which confirmed the presence of the virus.

It’s unclear how Ramil got infected.

In January, a troop of eight gorillas at the zoo’s sister facility, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, contracted COVID-19 from a keeper who had the virus but showed no symptoms.
