Victorians will no longer need to wear masks in retail settings, including supermarkets, from 6:00pm Friday, as part of a suite of eased coronavirus restrictions.
Key points:
- Victorians will be able to host up to 100 people in their homes each day
- Employers must stick to an on-site density limit, but do not need to allow employees to work from home after Friday
- AFL crowds will be boosted to 75 per cent of stadium capacity in time for round two
Acting Premier James Merlino said masks would still be required on public transport, taxis, ridesharing services and in aged care homes and hospitals.
The changed rules were announced as the state became officially COVID-free for the first time this year.
Victorians will also be able to host up to 100 people at home gatherings each day, and meet outdoors in groups of up to 200.
Caps on employees allowed on-site will be scrapped in favour of a density limit of one person per 2 square metres.
Public servants will also be required to return to the office at least three days a week.
Nightclubs, dancefloors, casinos and karaoke venues will be subject to a density limit of one person per 2 square metres with no cap on overall patrons.
Indoor non-seated entertainment venues will be able to reach 75 per cent capacity with an overall limit of 1,000 people per space.
Gyms and exercise facilities will move to a less restrictive density limit of one person per 2 square metres.
AFL crowd capacity boosted for round two
Mr Merlino also announced AFL crowds would be boosted to 75 per cent of stadium capacity.
The new rules will take effect before Thursday night's MCG clash between Carlton and Collingwood.
The new crowd limits will allow up to 75,000 people at the MCG, 43,000 at Marvel Stadium and 22,000 at AAMI Park.
"All of this is a reflection of the great work that all Victorians have done," Mr Merlino said.
A limit of 50,000 fans was in place for the opening match of the season between Richmond and Carlton last Thursday at the MCG.
More to come.
