Sydney MX Dome: Boy, 4, hit by motocross rider who lost control of bike - NEWS.com.au

A four-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bike that crashed through barriers at a motocross venue on Saturday morning.

The CareFlight helicopter and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the Sydney MX Dome just before 11am, and treated the boy for injuries to his head.

A spokeswoman for NSW Ambulance said he had briefly lost consciousness.

His family, including his parents and five-year-old brother, were also hit but not seriously injured.

A spokesman for the MX Dome told NCA NewsWire the rider was a young boy who they believe may have gotten the throttle on his bike stuck before going over a raised corner on the track, over the first barrier blocking spectators from the track and crashed into the second, pushing it over onto spectators.

“This is something we didn’t anticipate with the barriers we had in place,” he said.

“We are reviewing all the safety measures we have in place, including spectators areas, to see if we can make it any safer than it already is.”

The young boy was taken by ambulance with his father to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, in a stable condition, while his mother and brother were taken to hospital in a separate ambulance.

The rider of the motorbike, a boy aged between 12 and 14, was wearing a helmet and full protective gear and was not injured.
