At least 13,000 homes and businesses are still without power after a deadly storm swept across Melbourne.
Three people were killed by falling trees, including four-year-old Ayan Kapoor, when winds up to 158km/h hit the state on Thursday night.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said on Saturday morning power had been restored to more than 180,000 homes and businesses since the storm, with about 13,000 still without electricity.
He said the majority of those were AusNet customers in the city’s outer east, with the provider working as quickly as possible to repair the extensive damage to the network.
Mr Andrews also offered his best wishes to the three families who lost loved ones during the storm.
“It’s very tragic circumstances and I know this will be a very difficult time for them,” he said.
Victoria’s State Emergency Service has received more than 3000 calls for assistance since Thursday night, with the Mount Everlyn, Belgrave and Croydon areas in the outer east the hardest-hit.
About 150 jobs remain outstanding, with SES volunteers returning to the streets for a third day on Saturday to continue the clean-up.
SES chief officer Tim Wiebusch said he expected the remaining jobs to be cleared by Saturday afternoon.
The Maroondah Highway is also expected to remain closed through the Black Spur until 4pm on Saturday as crews work to remove trees between Healesville and Narbethong that came down in the storm.
Weather bureau senior meteorologist Dean Narromore said another burst of strong and gusty winds would hit southern Victoria on Sunday with severe weather warnings likely to be issued.
“We are heading into our windy season, September and October are some of our windiest months,” he said.
“It’s important to prepare for more of these wind events as we head into the warmer months.”
Mr Narromore said another burst of wind and rain was also expected to hit Victoria by the middle or late next week.
