The band issued a statement on its social media platforms, saying "it is with broken hearts that we tell you our beloved brother Paul Woseen has passed away today".
"We are shattered dealing with the loss of Paully, he was a brilliant shining light in all of our lives.
"Our hearts are with Paully's family, and we ask that you respect our need for privacy at this time."
The Screaming Jets formed in Newcastle's famous pub rock scene in 1989, and had three albums that reached the top five on the ARIA charts.
They are perhaps best known for their catchy rock anthem "Better", which reached number 4 on the singles charts in 1991.
The band is still recording music and touring, and a new album, entitled 'Professional Misconduct', is set to be released on October 6.
Woseen was one of just two of the original members, along with frontman Dave Gleeson.
No cause of death has yet been made public.
More to come.
