While Victoria recorded two locally acquired cases of COVID-19 yesterday, up from one the day before, it’s important to keep in mind that active cases are actually dropping.

There were 64 active cases of coronavirus across the state yesterday. That’s down from the 68 that were recorded the day before.

The state recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the community yesterday. The two new locally acquired cases are primary close contacts of existing cases, according to the health department.

There were four cases of COVID-19 detected in hotel quarantine. Those figures are off the back of 16,932 tests yesterday.

Fiona Reynolds may not be a household name in Australia but the effects of her work are evident across the globe and in boardrooms of some of the world’s biggest carbon-emitting companies.

Reynolds, originally from Melbourne, planned to clock up at least a decade in the global role that she started in 2013, but five weeks ago her father suffered a stroke.

“I couldn’t get home to see him before he died,” she said. “You can’t even guarantee you can get a flight.

“I realise I’m not the only person who has been in this situation but it does make you think – Australia’s not changing anything, so what am I going to do?”

Two weeks out from the school holidays, health authorities are refusing to commit to which coronavirus restrictions will be eased and interstate tourism bodies are warning of more losses brought on by the uncertainty around Victoria’s continuing lockdown.

Victorian tourism operators are looking forward to an influx of visitors once Melbourne removes its 25-kilometre travel restriction as many anxious holidaymakers are expected to forgo their traditional winter Queensland break because of booking uncertainty.

A Southbank building that houses busy restaurants and cafes is among Melbourne’s latest exposure sites. Freshwater Place in Southbank is listed as a tier 2 exposure site, with several exposure periods dating back to Wednesday, June 9.

A Medibank in Docklands has been added as an area of concern. As has a Woolworths, community hub and McDonald’s in Southbank.

Victoria reported just one new case of coronavirus in the community on Sunday, which health authorities have linked to a previous outbreak in an aged care home in Melbourne’s west. We’ll bring you today’s numbers as soon as they land.
