Will vaccination be mandatory to open international borders?
Flight Centre boss Graham Turner has just been speaking on ABC News Breakfast.
He said that he did not expect to have to force any of his staff to get vaccinated, with over 90 per cent of those in the Flight Centre head office already vaccinated.
However, he said that he expects anyone who wants to travel internationally would need to get vaccinated.
"It will almost certainly be mandatory if you want to travel to a lot of different countries and come back into Australia without hotel quarantine," Mr Turner said.
"I think we heard some news in the states about how there's ... a minority of people who, for whatever reason, don't want to get vaccinated.
"You can see what happens in Victoria, this is going to happen in other states, so it may welcome to a situation where the government does make it mandatory [to be vaccinated]."
Mr Turner said the vaccine rollout had been far too slow and that it should be a race.
"It's been far too slow and it's probably not only the Federal Government but, you know, nearly everyone can see now that our way out of this, these outbreaks are going to keep happening every couple of weeks or every couple of months and until the vast majority of people, at least 80 per cent are vaccinated," Mr Turner said.
"The states, I think, are starting to realise that this is a race to get vaccinated and you can see what's happening in the UK and the USA where they have done so much better than us in getting vaccination.
"Everything else pales into insignificance, I think."
