COVID-19 case visited NSW locations ‘while potentially infectious’ - The Sydney Morning Herald

NSW Health has issued a public health alert after a positive COVID-19 case from Melbourne visited a number of locations in the state’s south.

The department on Tuesday night said it had been advised by Victoria’s Department of Health that the visitor was in Jervis Bay, Goulburn, Hyams Beach, and Vincentia while potentially infectious on Sunday, May 23 and Monday, May 24.

The person drove back to Melbourne on May 24, reported the onset of symptoms on May 25 and was tested for COVID-19 on Monday, May 31.

“The case visited a number of venues in Jervis Bay, Goulburn, Hyams Beach, and Vincentia while potentially infectious,” NSW Health said.

Anyone who attended the following venues of concern in the times listed is asked to immediately call NSW Health on 1800 943 553, get tested for COVID-19 and isolate until you receive further information from public health officials.

  • Cooked Goose Cafe, 76 Cyrus Street, Hyams Beach - 10am-12pm, Sunday, May 23
  • Coles Vincentia Shopping Village, 21 The Wool Road, Vincentia - 12pm-1pm, Sunday, May 23
  • Green Patch camp ground, Booderee National Park, Village Bay Road, Jervis Bay - All day Sunday, May 23 and until 9am on Monday, May 24
  • Shell Coles Express Big Merino, 1/3 Sowerby Street, Goulburn - 10-11.30am, Monday, May 24
  • Trapper’s Bakery, 4 Sowerby Street, Goulburn - 10.30am-11.30am on Monday, May 24

The movements of the case in and around Jervis Bay are being investigated and the list of venues is likely to be updated, the health department said.

Testing capacity will be increased in the area including a drive-through pop-up COVID-19 testing facility in Huskisson. Further information will be available on Wednesday.

“Anyone who lives in Jervis Bay, or has visited Jervis Bay since 22 May, is asked to be especially vigilant for the onset of even the mildest of cold-like symptoms, and is urged to come forward for testing immediately if they appear, then isolate until a negative result is received,” NSW Health said. “Additionally, anyone who has recently had symptoms should also get tested.”

The Victoria Department of Health said it was working closely with NSW Health to test, trace and isolate the contacts of the “newly-identified positive case” and the person had provided initial information about exposure sites in both states.

Federal Aged Care Services Minister Richard Colbeck said he had been advised of the case during the senate estimates hearing on Tuesday evening.

Mr Colbeck said the infected person had been diagnosed positive in Victoria. He said NSW officials are following up the family.

Chief Health Officer Professor Paul Kelly said the case was most likely linked to the current outbreak in Victoria.
