European protectionism over vaccines will not harm Australia long-term, says Dr Norman Swan
Dr Norman swan told ABC News Breakfast that the blocking of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Australia should not hurt us long term.
The comments come after Italy blocked 250,000 doses from being exported to Australia.
Dr Swan said the effect will not last, as we will be making that vaccine on our own shores.
He said if the Pfizer vaccine is halted from heading down-under, that could cause a few issues.
"They could start blocking our Pfizer supplies as well, because we've got 20 million doses of Pfizer due in the country over a period of time," he said.
"It will be interesting to see what happens with New Zealand.
"New Zealand has now got, I think, exclusively Pfizer and booked another eight million doses of Pfizer. So, we just need to watch that and see how it goes."
