Despite sunshine, Friday will remain very cold for May with temperatures well below average and breezy conditions adding a wind chill.
Friday’s forecast
Friday is starting of unseasonably cold, with temperatures ranging from the 20s in northern Minnesota to mid-30s for a couple spots in southern Minnesota. In northern Minnesota, this is cold enough that some locations are near record lows, and through the southern portion of the state it prompted a freeze warning until 9 a.m.
Most of the state only warms into the 40s Friday, even under sunny skies, which puts temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average.
Additionally, breezy conditions, especially for southern Minnesota could make wind chill temperatures feel 5 to 10 degrees cooler.
Temperatures will drop again overnight, leading to another frost concern for southern Minnesota Saturday morning. Rain and snow will also start moving across the state by early Saturday. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
