COVID updates: Melbourne 'on track' to ease restrictions this week, Victorian Acting Premier says - ABC News

UNICEF warns against wealthy nations flooding vaccines to developing countries

A United Nations agency is warning wealthy nations against flooding developing countries with donated COVID-19 vaccines, to avoid doses going to waste.

As Kathryn Magann reports, celebrities including Whoopi Goldberg and David Beckham have added their names to the letter to raise awareness.

UNICEF has written an open letter to G7 nations, urging them to donate 20 per cent of their vaccines by August.

The United Nations Children's Fund is warning the G7 bloc, meeting this weekend in the UK, the vaccine rollout needs to be more equitable globally, or new variants will grow and spread.

UNICEF is urging against block donations however, saying many poorer nations don't have the infrastructure to store large stockpiles of vaccines.

The global rollout IS gathering pace, but there are now at least four known variants of concern worldwide.

Adblock test (Why?)
