Venice’s popular all-day restaurant Great White is planning for a big 2021, with two new locations coming before the end of the year. First up is a seat along the main Larchmont drag, right next to the always-busy Salt & Straw in the former Cafe Parisien storefront, with plans to open this summer.
“Larchmont was always our immediate next location,” says co-owner Sam Cooper by phone. He and partner Sam Trude opened the first Great White back in 2017, and have since expanded operations to include Gran Blanco, a dinnertime favorite for wine and people-watching under the Venice sign. Now they’re heading well east.
“Larchmont is one of the best little main streets in the city,” Cooper continues. “It’s really walkable, diverse. We’re excited about it.” As for the menu, Cooper and Trude tell Eater that much of Great White’s current Venice menu will remain in place, from breakfast pickups to casual lunch and laid-back dinner with wood-fired pizzas — though some architectural items inside the restaurant, and a few dishes on the Larchmont menu, will be unique.
“We’ll definitely give Larchmont a bit of its own flair,” says Cooper. “We’re very aware that picking something up from Venice and putting it further east, it needs to be more than that. We do need to be very cautious, and make sure we become a part of the community.”
Beyond Larchmont, the pair tell Eater that there are plans in motion to open a third location — the largest yet — along a pretty prime drag in West Hollywood, though permitting and build-out are still ongoing. For that space, on Melrose, expect a large 800 square foot patio in the front, and the same all-day appeal. Until then, the summertime space at 244 N. Larchmont Boulevard is up next.
