Port Macquarie Nationals MP Leslie Williams says the behaviour of party members last week was behind her decision to resign yesterday.

She said it was a tough decision but the actions of leader John Barilaro, who threatened to move the Nationals to the crossbench during a clash over koala policy, left her with no choice.

"The events of last week ... were absolutely reckless and unreasonable [and] it seemed they have been accepted by the party organisation as appropriate and I just find it really disconcerting," she told the ABC.

"At the end of the day they didn't achieve any positive outcomes. It impacted on the integrity of our party and professionalism and certainly had an impact on our relationship with our Liberal colleagues."

Opposition leader Jodi McKay says she's not surprised by Ms Williams' decision and says the Coalition Government is "unravelling".

Blue Mountains fall

A man is in a stable condition in hospital after falling 35 metres down a cliff in the Blue Mountains yesterday.

It's believed the incident at Wentworth Falls was accidental.

The man was unconscious for about five minutes, and was airlifted to Liverpool hospital.

He is now in a serious but stable condition.

Virtual kidnapping

An 18-year-old Chinese international student who was the victim of a "virtual kidnapping" has been located safe and well in the Sydney suburb of Pyrmont.

The elaborate phone scam involved fraudsters posing as Chinese authorities, convincing the student to fake her own kidnapping and demanding ransom payments from her relatives.

A crime scene has been set up at a unit at Chatswood and investigations are continuing.

Eight incidents of virtual kidnappings have been reported to the NSW Police this year, with scammers targeting Chinese international students and obtaining $3.2 million in ransom payments.

Union support pandemic leave

Unions NSW has called NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian's introduction of paid pandemic leave for workers who need to self-isolate a "welcome, if overdue" development.

Ms Berejiklian wrote to Prime Minister Scott Morrison to request access to the federal scheme, which was previously limited to states and territories that had declared a state of emergency.

"No worker should ever have to chose between their health and their livelihood, a point we first made to the Premier months ago," Unions NSW Secretary Mark Morey said.

"Large swathes of the workforce have done a tremendous job of protecting the NSW population from COVID and ensuring the state continues to function."

Questions over Hunter Valley gas plant

Labor MP for Shortland Pat Conroy says the Prime Minister has already changed his story on the need for a new gas-fired power plant in the NSW Hunter Valley.

During a visit to Newcastle last week, Scott Morrison warned of a 1,000 megawatt shortfall in dispatchable power once the Liddell power station closes in 2023.

But Mr Morrison told ABC's Insiders program yesterday the shortfall was closer to 250 megawatts.

Mr Conroy, who is Labor's shadow minister assisting on Climate Change, says the Prime Minister's commitment to build the gas plant at Kurri Kurri looks shaky.

"Most of what the Prime Minister announced was a stunt, it was a distraction from having a real energy policy, he's announced 20 energy policies in the last seven years and that has led to a massive investment strike in the energy sector."
