After going dark for more than six months weathering the pandemic, Full Belly Cafe and Bar in Stone Oak is reopening Oct. 5, eager to recapture its early promise as one of the year’s strongest new restaurants.
“We only wanted to do this one time, and we wanted to get it right,” said co-owner Blade Haddock, echoing the same sentiments he’s expressed since Full Belly shut down March 17 amid the first wave of stay-at-home orders, resisting early opportunities to come back. The stylish space will reopen at 75 percent capacity for dining inside and on the covered patio, along with curbside service.
Haddock opened the restaurant Feb. 11 with chef and co-owner James Moore, offering progressive American all-day diner food with global influences and a full bar. From the outset, Full Belly generated praise from the Express-News for pecan pie French toast, carbonara spaetzle, a salmon lardon salad and roasted chicken with mushroom-leek bread pudding. They’re all returning to the menu, along with bar manager Brett Varley’s creative cocktails and pastry chef Deanna Lansing’s muffins, housebaked breads and croissant-style Belly Puffs with chantilly cream.

Hours: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A daytime menu that incorporates breakfast, brunch and lunch will be served until 3 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday, going until 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. The dinner menu starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday.
