A police officer is in hospital after being hit by a car that allegedly drove at officers in a shopping centre carpark in Sydney's northern suburbs.
Police were responding to reports of a theft at the shopping centre on Sentry Drive, Stanhope Gardens, about 3pm on Saturday, when they noticed a woman suspected of involvement walking towards a Toyota Camry.
In a statement, NSW Police said the woman ran to the parked car and attempted to leave the carpark before driving at the officers, forcing them to "take evasive action" as the car drove towards the exit.
As officers ran towards the carpark exit, police allege the woman drove at them, striking a senior constable who was knocked to the ground by the impact.
The car continued out of the carpark and was last seen travelling west on Sentry Drive, police said.
The officer hit by the car was treated at the scene for leg and back injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Police established a crime scene and are now appealing for public assistance to locate the driver and car involved.
The driver is described as being a woman aged in her mid-20s, of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance with a medium build and long brown hair.
There were also two male passengers in the vehicle, who police believe are in their 30s or 40s, and also of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance with medium build.
The car is described as a silver or grey Toyota Camry sedan with NSW registration plates BMO 4SP.
