A man whose driving while allegedly trying to flee resulted in a police officer being tossed from a car has tested positive to coronavirus and been isolated in custody.
Jahdon Tamati, 30, who police allege was also in breach of Melbourne's stage four coronavirus restrictions, has been charged with 20 offences after an officer was flung into a nearby stationary vehicle from the car Mr Tamati was driving in South Yarra.
Mr Tamati, who did not apply for bail, appeared briefly via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday from police cells in St Kilda.
He has tested positive to coronavirus since being remanded in custody.
Mr Tamati's alleged offending comes as Premier Daniel Andrews broadly condemned the "shameful" behaviour police have been subject to in recent months as they attempt to enforce the coronavirus restrictions under Operation Sentinel.
"We've seen some behaviour towards Victoria Police in recent times that's been nothing short of shameful," Mr Andrews said.
"These rules, if they're not followed, it'll just mean numbers don't go down and we keep having days like this where we've got many, many people who are dying.
"This has been a very difficult year for Victoria Police, not just members, but families, partners, kids of Victoria Police members."
Police say they approached the St Kilda man on Friday afternoon in South Yarra when he ran into a nearby car.
Mobile phone vision captured by a witness shows police reaching into the Range Rover being driven by Mr Tamati in an attempt to prevent him from fleeing.

The car sped backwards with one officer perched on the driver's-side door. It then hit a parked car just a few metres behind it, sending the office flying several metres.
The officer suffered minor injuries.
Police allege that Mr Tamati drove away in the car they suspect to be stolen before abandoning it in Bray Street. He was arrested shortly after.
Mr Tamati has been charged with 20 offences including assault, recklessly causing injury, failing to render assistance, failing to stop at the request of police and driving without a licence.
Magistrate Gregory McNamara said Mr Tamati will next appear before the court for a committal mention on November 2.
