NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says there has been six new coronavirus infections in her state in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday.
One of them is in hotel quarantine, and the source of the other five is under investigation.
Of the locally acquired cases was a trainee bus driver, who worked for one day while infectious, but wore a mask.
Two of the new cases live together in Western Sydney and infected each other, but how they initially contracted the virus remains unclear.
The other three infections include a man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s from Sydney's south-east who do not know each other, and a woman in her 30s who lives centrally.
A slew of businesses in central areas have now been exposed to the virus.
One of the new cases worked at 300 George Street, a large office tower in the CBD, on August 19, 20, 21 and 24.
Another attended the Apple store at Broadway on August 22 between 3.40pm and 4.40pm.
Anyone who was at these businesses has been warned to get tested and self-isolate if they develop COVID-19 symptoms.
Two of the new cases visited Sydney's Tattersalls Fitness Club on August 19, 21 and 23.
Anyone who was at that venue at the same time is being warned they may have been exposed to the virus.
NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant warned there could be new cases linked to those venues.
"It’s important to know that test results come through all through the night and we're currently following up a number of notifications we received through the night which we believe are linked to a number of these venues," she said.
Nearly 26,000 people were tested in the reporting period.
