On Saturday, a large group of artists, chefs, designers, musicians, and more participated in a virtual celebration of the healing power of creativity. Called “One Day on Earth,” the initiative centered around a digital livestream event hosted by Palm Heights—the Grand Cayman hotel founded in 2019 by Gabriella Khalil—and was dedicated to social change through artistic collaboration. From 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., there were performances by artists like Kelsey Lu and Raul de Nieves, as well as cooking demonstrations from chef Angela Dimayuga and the group behind Ghetto Gastro. The photographer Tyler Mitchell shared original artwork, while Solange released new footage from a 2016 performance she did at the Tate Modern. Other participants included floral designers behind Brrch and dance party hosts Everyday People. There were also workouts and wellness tips from experts in those spaces. During the livestream, visitors were encouraged to donate to World Central Kitchen (WCK)—the not-for-profit organization founded by chef José Andrés which provides meals to those in need—at present, the WCK has served 5 million fresh meals in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All proceeds the proceeds of “One Day on Earth” went directly to the WCK, and this coming weekend, the program will air once more in the hopes of raising the total amount.

“‘One Day on Earth’ incorporated many of the things we’re passionate about at Palm Heights,” explained Gerardo Gonzalez, who is the director of food and culture at the hotel. “It brought together an extremely diverse and creative group of individuals and collectives from all over the world.... This digital festival was a union of food, artistic creation, performance, music, and wellness with the aim to benefit a hugely impactful charity during a time of vulnerability for so many globally.”
