SA officially has no active COVID-19 cases - The Advertiser

South Australia officially has no active COVID-19 cases, according to chief health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier.

The milestone comes after several days of zero new cases.

There is one person in hospital with symptoms but they are no longer infectious,

Prof Spurrier said it was important to note it didn’t mean SA was coronavirus free.

There has been no new cases in more than a week

SA Health carried out 1665 tests on Friday and Prof Spurrier urged people to continue getting tested if they had any symptoms – even the “touch of a sniffle”.

And a string of the state’s popular attractions also reopened today, including Cleland and Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens.

Premier Steven Marshall said SA was the first state to actively encourage people to get out back to regional areas and go camping. He said the ban on elective surgery would be lifted from midnight Friday.

“We can pat ourselves on the back in SA, we have taken on the coronavirus better than anywhere else in the world,” he said. “It’s a day for celebration but also for vigilance.”
